The Good Shepherd

I’m just an ordinary sheep
as all sheep tend to be
but I’m with the Good Shepherd
as you will clearly see.

He is the Gate that pens me in
secure in His routine.
Each night Jesus lays down His life
each danger is foreseen.

He’s not like temporary hires
who’ll run at every danger
attacked by lions, wolves and bears
or robbing, thieving strangers.

And when, at dawn, He opens up
secure to move away
He calls us on to follow Him
and we know to obey.

When I ignore His caring call
get lost and go astray
He hunts me down ‘til I am found
restores me to His way.

Clear streams will satiate my thirst
fresh pasture for my feed
He is aware of my desires
and meets my every need.
