Vigilant Persistence    

Peter's pastoral closing words;
Be sure to listen to all you've heard.
Vigilant in all you do
a sober mind to see you through.

For Satan, the accuser, is at hand
devious distractions always planned
creating confusion; engaging fear
or subtly seducing whilst seeming sincere.

Although his cry is fearsome
his strategy's the same;
he'll wheedle and argue
that you're to take the blame.

Seeking how to destroy you
that's his primary goal
Satan's great endeavour
devouring our souls.

But our refuge and our resource
is found when we resist
and all we ask of God is
strength so we can persist.

The battle is the Lord's,
all we're to do is stand
firm in the faith He's given us
held fast in God's own hand.
